Murder Trail of Rivers State APC Chieftain Ojukaye Flag-Amachree suffers another setback
There was heavy security presence all around the Rivers State
High Court premises today as a State High Court in Port Harcourt granted more
time for the Rivers State Commissioner of Police to produce a chieftain of the
All Progressives Congress from Asari Toru Local Government area, Ojukaye
Flag-Amachree who is standing trial for a murder that occurred during the last
general elections.
Justice Joy Akpughunum ordered that the Commissioner of police
should arrest and produce the accused person on the next adjourned date of 27th February
after it was confirmed that the State Police command was served his last order
just yesterday.
Prosecuting Counsel, George Adeyemi who had prayed the court to
grant more time to the State Police Command to produce the accused person
explained to journalists outside of court that several previous orders had not
yielded any result.
Mr. Adeyemi however hoped that with the time granted, the State
Police Command would be able to produce Ojukaye Flag-Amachree on the next
adjourned date.
Meanwhile, counsel to the defendant, Sampson West however told
journalists that the continued absence of his client, Ojukaye Flag-Amachree
from court proceedings was due to his critical health.
The EmeraldHub reports that the Former
Chairman of Asari Toru Local Government area under the administration of former
Governor Rotimi Amaechi is standing two different trials on two separate
charges of Murder and attempted murder.
He was granted bail by an appeal court in Port Harcourt in 2016
and ever since has not appeared before any of the courts to take his plea often
citing ill health as the cause.
