Staff of RSSDA ululate travails of Agency; says only 7 out of 31 months’ salary had been paid.
Staff of the Rivers State Sustainable Development
Agency RSSDA has dismissed media reports that the payment of the salary is
being delayed for two years because they failed to accept an offer by Governor
Nyesom Wike to do a downward review of their salary structure
Chairman of the workers union Justice Eleru in a
statement said that the salaries of workers were slashed by at least 30% and he
said the salaries of all categories of workers were slashed since 2015 when the
former director of the agency who recently resigned his appointments Larry
Pepple assumed office
He added that the only invitation they received from
the Rivers State Governor was when the they were invited to take part in the
verification exercise in March before they were paid seven months arrears out
of the thirty one month.
Justice Eleru who highlighted the many challenges of
the Agency said the Management of the RSSDA is already being served a notice of
eviction by its landlord to quit its office complex by December.
He said over
300 families represented in the agency are being subjected to unimaginable
hardship for two years and about 500 students of the agency’s scholarship are
stranded abroad with about one hundred vendors who had done supplies for the
agency are being owed.
He explained that the one million dollars the Governor recently
approved for the payment of tuition fees for twenty eight final year students
abroad only represent 10% of the total sum, the agency is owing the schools for
its foreign scholarship programme
Officials of the Rivers State Government are yet to
respond to this.
