Rivers State Governor bags United Nation based Awards
Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has pledged that he
will continue to embark on landmark projects to improve the living condition of
the people of the state.
Governor Wike stated this after he received the Global Human
Settlements Outstanding Contribution Award by the United Nations Sustainable
Development Goals, SDGs in New York, United States.
The award was in recognition of Governor Wike’s outstanding
achievements in the area of urban renewal, sustainable cities and provision of
basic amenities to low income earners in the state.
Presenting
the award to Governor Nyesom Wike, Vice President of the Global Forum on Human
Settlements and Sustainable Cities, Mr. Taj Hamad lauded him for reducing slums
and bridging poverty gaps.
Speaking
at the award ceremony, representative of the United Nations Environment, Ms
Mara Murillo said the award will encourage other leaders to replicate.
The
twenty three persons who were given the awards were drawn from different
countries including Nigeria, China, Bulgaria, Germany, USA amongst others.
