Quota system a good step towards promoting justice and equity in Nigeria - Public Analysts
Quota system embedded in
the Federal Character Principle, has been described as crucial for the
achievement of equity, justice and peace among various ethnic groups in the
country.
Guests on a radio programme in Port Harcourt, who made the assertion, noted that
quota system has not only given every ethnic group a sense of belonging in
terms of appointment, but also stabilized the political atmosphere in the
country.
A Public Affairs analyst and lecturer at the Port Harcourt Polytechnic, Chief Osilem Emmanuel who was a guest on the programme, however said quota system is anti-development and encourages mediocrity instead of merit.
Another guest on the programme and an associate professor of public law at the Rivers state University, Mr. Richard Nwokocha noted that quota system encourages excessive spending on bloated government, leaving very little for development.
