NJC C’ttee to Fast-track Corruption Trials with New Practice Directions
The National Judicial Council, NJC, has adopted a new
practice direction to fast track hearing and determination of all pending
high-profile corruption cases.
A statement by the Director of Information,
National Judicial Council (NJC), Soji Oye said its Corruption and Financial
Crimes Cases Trials Monitoring Committee, COTRIMCO, has also resolved to
actively engage prosecuTOrial bodies like the Economic and Financial Crimes
Commission (EFCC) and Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences
Commission (ICPC) in furtherance of its mandate to ensure quick determination
of such pending cases.
He, however, said no date has been fixed for the
planned interface with the anti-corruption bodies.
According to the statement, the committee has so far received
two thousand, three hundred and six ongoing alleged corruption cases that were
already receiving attention from the four sub-committees it had been divided
into.
The sub-committees which include practice directions,
training, feedback, as well as engagement and awareness were constituted at the
meeting of the anti-graft panel, under the leadership of the Chairman of
COTRIMCO, retired Justice Suleiman Galadima.
