The Global Human Settlements Outstanding Contribution Award to Rivers State Governor, Nyesome Wike has been described as well deserved.

The Award by Sustainable Cities and Human Settlement Awards was part of the activities to celebrate world Cities Day 2017.

A public Affairs Analyst Mr. Chimenem Wordi who made this known to journalist emphasized the importance of the award coming from a Global Body.

The Legal practitioner maintained that the governor had in the past two years embarked on various projects in the state that have positive impact on the people.

In the same vein, a resident of Kankrama Community in Asari Toru Local Government Area of Rivers State, Mr. Philip Thompson while commending the award, called on Governors of other states to emulate the developmental strides of Governor Nyesom Wike.

However, in his reaction, the Community Development Committee Chairman of Okporo Council, Mr. Evans Amadi while acknowledging that the governor has done well on infrastructural development, asked him to remember some roads in their community that has been in bad state.

APC REACTS

The All Progressives Congress, Rivers State Chapter, has alleged that Governor Nyesom Wike has resorted to “high level scam to dupe the peoples’ resources and rubbish their collective intelligence.”
The party made the claim while describing the award given to Wike by a United Nations-backed platform, Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Awards, SCAHSA, as a scam.
The state arm of the party said this after an inquiry to ascertain the authenticity of the award from UN-Habitat Headquarters in New York.
A statement signed and sent to DAILY POST by the spokesperson, Chris Finebone, said Wike should stop deceiving the people and settle down to providing good governance.
The statement reads, “Following obvious curiosity that is trailing a reported United Nations (UN)-backed award under the platform of Sustainable Cities and Human Settlements Awards (SCAHSA) and inquiries by the Rivers State chapter of All Progressives Congress, APC, on the status of the purported award, the UN-Habitat Headquarters, New York, which liaises with development partners on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) programmes of the UN has disowned the SCAHSA award reportedly to be conferred on Gov. Nyesom Wike Tuesday, 31st October in New York.
“Following APC’s e-mail inquiry dated Monday 30th October (yesterday) concerning the Global Human Settlements Outstanding Contribution Award organised by SCAHSA, the UN-Habitat New York Office, in a statement dated same day and signed by the Secretary and IT Focal Point, Mr. Angel Gomez, dissociated the UN from such an award.
