ENERGY THEFT: Governor Okowa of Delta State to collaborate with DISCOs



Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta State has given an assurance that the state government will collaborate with Distribution Companies {DISCOs} to combat energy theft as part of measures to improve the power situation in the state.
 




Governor Okowa stated this in Asaba when the Minister of Power Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola led the management team of his ministry and agencies on a courtesy visit to him.
 

He said legislation could be enacted to curb the increasing incidences of energy theft.
 

Governor Okowa urged the Ministry of Power, Works and Housing and the Distribution Companies [DISCOs] to sentisize Nigerians on the adverse effect of energy thefts and also resolve power billing issues in the country to reduce agitation among the populace.
 

On roads, Governor Okowa said the Delta State government was ready  to intervene in the resolution of the compensation issues on the Sapele-Agbor Road but called for immediate rehabilitation of the failed sections of the Asaba Head bridge end of the Benin-Asaba Express Road.
 

Minister of Power, Works and Housing, Mr. Babatunde Fashola said they were in Asaba for a Monthly Power Interactive meeting hosted by Benin Distribution Company [BEDC] to review the power issues in the country and resolve peculiar local electricity issues.
 

Mr. Fashola said his ministry had generated over seven thousand MVA of electricity and that measures were being put in place to improve the capacity of the DISCOs to distribute the generated power.
 

The minister appealed to Governor Okowa to intervene in the compensation issues on the Sapele-Agbor Road to enable the contractor move to site.
