Countries should be receptive of migrants - Ben Ayade to UN

River State Governor, Professor Ben Ayade has appealed to the United Nations,
UN to do more to curb humanitarian crises ravaging the world rather than just provide
food and shelter for refugees.
The
Governor made the appeal when he received the Federal Commissioner, National
Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons and some
representatives of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to Nigeria
and ECOWAS urged the UN to ensure that countries do not close their borders
against refugees seeking asylum.
The
Cross River State Governor promised to continue to accommodate the Cameroonian
refugees until the crisis in the Southern part of the country ends.
The
Federal Commissioner, National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally
Displaced Persons, Hajiya Sadiya Farouk who thanked the Governor for the
hospitality shown to the refugees, said over two thousand refugees had been
registered in the State so far.
On
his part, the Country Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner to
Nigeria and ECOWAS, Mr. Jose-Anthonio Canhandula called on Africans and the
International community to continue to show love and mutual respect for one
another.
Mr.
Canhandula said the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees
is partnering other United Nations agencies in the State to help better the
living condition of refugees and internally displaced persons.
