Bonny CTC Chairman Warisenibo calls for synergy in tackling attacks on Bonny-PH Waterways
The Caretaker
committee Chairman of Bonny Local Government Area, Warisenibo Isoboye Tobin has
called for increased synergy between marine security agencies in the Local
government and the Bonny Marine Transporters Association in tackling the
incessant attacks on the Bonny-Port Harcourt waterways.
Warisenibo Tobin
stated this during his 4th joint security meeting with stakeholders to
proffer solutions to brutality suffered by passengers from sea pirates on the
Bonny Coastal routes.
According to
a statement by the chief press secretary to the CTC chairman, Mr. Kingsley
Jumbo the meeting resolved to meet with the head of marine police in Rivers
State, the Commanding Officer of NNS Pathfinder and the Commanding Officer
Forward Operation base, Bonny on the need to increase patrol on the waterways.
The
statement explained that NIMASA will be invited to confirm the operational
worthiness of boats plying the water ways and also meet with the CTC Chairman
of Okrika LGA to discuss and strategize on how to curb the activities of sea
pirates along the Okrika axis enroute Port Harcourt.
Warisenibo
Tobin while appealing to boat owners and drivers to stop plying the waters from
5pm, sympathised with people of Bonny over their plights, assuring them that the
situation will soon be put under control.
The CTC
Chairman further urged Companies on the Island to complement the efforts of the
Local Government in providing security on the waterways.
