Stop building under Power Lines - NERC Boss
The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission, NERC has cautioned
members of the public against erecting structures under power lines.
Speaking in Port Harcourt, NERC
Seniour Manager, Mr. Effiom Effiong warned that the lines could snap
accidentally and that radiation from the wires was dangerous.
He urged people to be mindful of the environment they live and do
business.
Mr. Effiong said that structures under power lines were against
the rights of way and infringement to building regulations stating that
defaulters could face imprisonment or demolition of property by government.
He cited the incident that occurred in a match viewing center under
a power line in Calabar where seven people lost their lives.
The NERC senior manager also said car owners should also avoid parking under power lines.
