Health Sector: Ban on Private Practice Unnecessary - NMA Rivers State

Federal Government has been urged to concentrate on improving the health care system in the country rather than ban public service doctors from private practice which is not obtainable in other climes.
This assertion was made by a former chairman, Nigeria Medical Association, NMA in Rivers State, Doctor Furo Greene who stressed that challenges in the country’s health sector are enormous.

The former NMA chairman maintained that private practice does not necessarily interfere with the job of medical doctors who work in the public service because of the checks and balances in the system.

He warned that if the move to ban medical doctors from private practice is actualized by the Federal Government, the health sector may suffer a great deal.

Federal Government had on Wednesday announced that it plans to ban medical Doctors working in the public service from private practice.
Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole who made the announcement, said the decision was reached at the last Federal Executive Council, FEC meeting headed by President Muhammadu Buhari.
