GIRL CHILD: Parents should encourage equality among their children- Rivers State SA
Former Special
Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs.
Toru Ofili says parents ought to teach their children to see one another as
equal partners in the home, irrespective of sex, to avoid abuse
She advocated
that gender discrimination must be stopped and the girl child must be educated against
all odds.
Also speaking at
the ceremony, a final year student of Medicine and Surgery in the University of
Port Harcourt, Mr. Blessed Oromona said the aim of the program was to inspire
and educate the girl child to build a better place for all.
He hoped that
the program would successfully empowered the girl child to do more for the
society at large. Some students who
participated at the event, Miss Daniella Tamunomiye and Miss Jeba Victory said
through the programme, they learnt that gender inequality amongst adolescents is
wrong.
They however,
advised that the girl child should stand up for themselves and also that the
boys should put in efforts to help out against the ill treatment on the girl
child.
