GIRL CHILD: Parents should encourage equality among their children- Rivers State SA

Former Special Adviser to the Rivers State Governor on Sustainable Development Goals, Mrs. Toru Ofili says parents ought to teach their children to see one another as equal partners in the home, irrespective of sex, to avoid abuse
Mrs. Ofili who made this known to newsmen during a ceremony organized by the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria, MWAN, Rivers State Chapter said the laws protecting the girl child are not properly implemented, putting the girl child at such a disadvantage position in the society.

She advocated that gender discrimination must be stopped and the girl child must be educated against all odds.
Also speaking at the ceremony, a final year student of Medicine and Surgery in the University of Port Harcourt, Mr. Blessed Oromona said the aim of the program was to inspire and educate the girl child to build a better place for all.

He hoped that the program would successfully empowered the girl child to do more for the society at large.Some students who participated at the event, Miss Daniella Tamunomiye and Miss Jeba Victory said through the programme, they learnt that gender inequality amongst adolescents is wrong.


They however, advised that the girl child should stand up for themselves and also that the boys should put in efforts to help out against the ill treatment on the girl child.
