Environmental Sanitation records poor compliance in Port Harcourt.
Some residents of Rivers
State have appealed to the Rivers State Waste Management Agency RIWAMA to
facilitate prompt evacuation of wastes to avoid it returning back to the
drains.
A resident of Rumuokoro, Mr.
Reality Uzoma who spoke with Correspondent Blessing Ituma said although there
was poor compliance to today’s sanitation exercise due to the no restriction
order that the wastes evacuated since last Thursday sanitation by people doing
business at the Romuokoro Roundabout has not been evacuated.
Also along the
NTA/Wali-Ogbonda Road linking the East/West Road, it was observed that grasses
were beginning to grow on debris evacuated from drains in the area.
One of the residents, Mr.
Edwin Nwaneri lamented that the debris has been there since the September
sanitation as no truck has come for the evacuation.
The residents said sometimes
they contribute to remove the debris from along the road calling for
enforcement on the relevant evacuation contractors.
Meanwhile our correspondent
who monitored the sanitation exercise reports that only few persons were seen
cleaning their surroundings as there was no restriction of movement.
