Autonomy of Local govts, key to true development in Nigeria - Mr Innocent Ekwu

Autonomy of local governments and ensuring elections into that tier have been described as the right step to liberating the third tier of government in pursuing the aspirations of the rural areas.

This was the assertion of a legal practitioner Mr. Innocent Ekwu during an interactive; he said it would foster better democratic society.

Mr. Ekwu also expressed confidence in the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC to conduct free and fair election for the third tier of the government.

Recently, the National Assembly voted to guarantee democratically constituted local government councils through elections conducted by INEC.
