Agriculture, Alternative to dwindling oil revenue - Paul Boroh



The Special Adviser to President Muhammadu Buhari on Niger Delta Affairs and Coordinator of the Amnesty Programme, Retired General Paul Boroh, has identified agriculture as a better alternative to the dwindling oil revenue in the country.

Retired General Boroh who stated this while inaugurating the Agrofarm 105 Co-operative for twenty former Niger Delta militants at George –Ama in Okrika, Rivers state, noted that the revenue in agriculture can sustain the Niger Delta region without oil.

General Boroh who commended President Muhammadu Buhari for his commitment to peace in the Niger Delta region, said the success of the amnesty programme was as a result of collaboration with stakeholders in the region and advised the former agitators to be serious with the empowerment programme.

Also speaking, a member of the Pan Niger Delta Elders Forum, Chief Anabs  Sara-Igbe said additional ten cluster farms are to be set-up in the state to meaningfully engage three thousand youths in agriculture and identified funding as a major constraint of the amnesty programme.

Twenty former agitators trained at the Songhai farm in Rivers state,  are engaging in fish and poultry farming at the agrofarm  center in George-Ama,  Okrika as part of federal government youth empowerment programme.
